KIDS IN THE COLD
– Charger Foundation and Degrassi actress suit up needy kids –
Feb. 9, 2005 — The Charger Foundation is charging in to help needy and homeless
children in the GTA this winter.
With Winter still here and cold temperatures forecasted, desperately needy kids who
have gone without winter clothing basics this frigid winter will finally have snowsuits,
mitts, gloves and hats, thanks to The Schools Snowsuit Challenge and Kids In
The Cold Clothing Program initiated by Windfall Clothing Service, and The
Charger Foundation.
Tomorrow morning, Thursday, February 10 at 11 a.m., at The Bargains Group
Warehouse, 890 Caledonia Road (side entrance), The Charger Foundation will
present Windfall Clothing Service with a $5,000 cheque to purchase winter clothing
accessories for distribution to family agencies, including Massey Centre and MacAuley
Centre and others..
Actress Sarah Barrable-Tishauer will be on hand for the presentation. The 15-yearold
actress, who plays Liberty Van Zandt on the popular television series, Degrassi:
The Next Generation, is a Windfall volunteer and helped spearhead this year’s
Snowsuit Challenge. The Snowsuit challenge raised enough money to purchase over
125 Snowsuits.
“The snowsuits and winter clothing accessories will go to severely underprivileged
children – most of whose lives are in such turmoil, that they are not even attending
school,” says Helen Harakas, executive director of Windfall Clothing. In the past 5
years, the number of children in Metro emergency shelters has increased by a staggering
70%.
The Charger Foundation created by the Sapi Family and Hinchcliffe Sapi
Chartered Accountants is dedicated to fostering fundraising initiatives for the
homeless and less fortunate, especially children in our society.
The Bargains Group is also be making a large donation of 1000 winter hats to help
needy kids stay warm this winter.
